Return to work 31/08/2005 Yes, it’s true, I have returned to the working in the office. After nearly six weeks of working from home (or more accurately - working from bed) I am deemed well enough to dump the crutches and commute to and from work. I'm so chuffed to be completely free again. I only wish that I could continue to work from home some of the time. Maybe three days at home to two at work would be good. That way I could indulge my nocturnalism and work in the early hours of the morning (and lets face it that's when the best code is written the world over) and have the odd lie in! I guess though it'll be years before I can do that, right now experience and working with a great developer is more important. How am I commuting I hear you ask? Well I'm glad that you asked that. I have bought - from a good friend - a Suzuki GSF400 Bandit. This little bike is a 1989 Japanese import and amazingly lovely for its age. You see the Jap bike companies keep the best stuff for their home market. This little beastie I'm riding round on revs to 14000 and sounds like a formula 1 car. In short it makes me laugh and is perfect for my return to biking. Mad

melly New here. Came through Gone's blog and the lovely comment exchange between you and Josh.I had actually managed to convince my boss that the occasional work from home aint such a bad idea if it keeps me happy. He agreed and for a while I worked a couple of days a month from home. Then the bastards went belly up... but that's another story. Are you gonna show us the bike? Date Added: 03/09/2005
Mad Hey Melly, thanks for dropping by. I've been waiting for a good photo opportunity for my new Bandit, when I get a good pic I'll post it for you. I'm doing a slow skills riding day tomorrow so I might get a good photo then.Sorry your work from home opportunity disappeared, it's something I'd like to do more in the future.Have you visted Josh's site too? He's one of my best friends from the web, an all round good guy. Date Added: 03/09/2005

Mick Mad,glad to see your recovery is going well, what about the SV's recovery?I would like to work from home but seeing as to actually repair the equipment I actually have to be standing in front of it which makes working from home a bit tricky. The sooner they invent telepathically controlled robots the better! Date Added: 17/09/2005
Mad Hey Mick, the SV will never recover I'm afraid. It died the second I rammed it into the back of a car. Last I saw it, as the ambulance guys carried me off, was its poor shattered carcass which was missing anything in front of the headstock. Oh well... It has been replaced with a Bandit 400 - which was my recovery bike - and a Kawasaki Z750 which I have owned for a mere 24 hours! As for the working from home? Maybe one day you'll get the chance, but if you do be aware that it makes you get a bit "stir crazy" after a while. Thanks for dropping in. Date Added: 19/09/2005
Mick Actually working from home with 3 kids probably wouldn't work ('scuse the pun).My SV is doing ok but is in serious need of some maintenance, I just don't get the time to do it, and seeing as I'm trying hard to save some money I don't really want to pay someone else to do it.I wonder if Supernanny "fixes" bikes like she "fixes" kids, I can see it now:Me: "thanks for servicing my bike supernanny, but it seems you are all covered in grease, here's some swafega"Supernanny:"thanks. I'll just slip off my glasses and this suit"Me: droolSupernanny:"Ooh I'll have to sit on the naughty step after this" Date Added: 20/09/2005
Mad What needs doing to the SV? *Wanders off for a cold shower and a lie down after that mental image of Supernanny* Date Added: 20/09/2005
Mick Just the usual, brakes, chain, service, a good clean etc.I haven't adjusted or oiled the chain for months, it's still pinking like bastard and is overdue a service.I'm going to try and get some it done in the next couple of weeks.Catch you later. Date Added: 21/09/2005
Mad Ahh all the little jobs I enjoy doing, well except the brakes; I don't trust myself to service those yet. That pinking's a bit worrying though? Date Added: 21/09/2005
