Stoner in the gravel!

It just wasn't Casey Stoners weekend or Ducati's for that matter. There were no Italian machines in the top ten and for the first time in over a year Casey made not just one but two mistakes in the race. It looked to me like he was trying just a little too hard and that caused both excursions to the gravel... or (whisper it) was his confidence in the Ducati shaken by his crash in practice? Still, he did well to take eleventh after going off roading so often.

I had to laugh at the way Pedrosa rode that race, Lorenzo's comments have lit a fire under Dani's bum in a big way. I don't think I've ever seen him ride on the ragged edge like that before. I must admit to a certain increase in grudging respect for the little Spaniard. He won that race on sheer bloody pace.

It was interesting to see Lorenzo follow Rossi after Vale put that beautiful overtake on him. Anyone else think he was watching Rossi's style and lines? I think he was happy to sit and learn. Watch out Rossi your teammate is going to get faster and faster.

The highlight of the race for me was the battle for fifth place, with Dovisioso (did his tyres go off?), Capirossi (showing some of his old flair, that last lap charge was incredible), Toseland and Hopkins swapping places and bashing each other’s fairings around like it was SBK! I just wish the race controller had shown more footage of it.

I was so proud of James Toseland getting sixth and coming, oh so close, to fifth. The guy is amazing, sick as a dog with bronchitis and he still manages to pass people and mix it up with some of the best riders in the world. Watch out when he's feeling good and he's got the new Yammy engine! The guy is doing so well.

Oh and well done to Bradley Smith in the 125s for his second ever podium.
