And I thought it was going to be a comparatively boring season in MotoGP this year but I'm happy to admit to being very, very wrong. A third of the way through the fixtures and three riders are equal at the top of the table. This season has turned into an epic struggle of the greatest riders in the world.
The greatest of all time proved today why he's called that. The final pass against Jorge has me baffled; I simply cannot understand how he did it. He may be the ageing champion but I believe he is still at the height of his powers.
Lorenzo's ride was just sublime, I really thought he'd done it, that he'd won and if he was racing anyone but Rossi I'd have been right. I said last year that he'd be contesting the championship this year and yes, I know it's hardly a stunning prophecy but I'm gratified by how right I was. He is the King in waiting. It will be a Yamaha mounted champion this year but right now I can't tell you which one it will be.
Did you see Stoner in the winner's enclosure after the race? He was physically exhausted. Which says to me that he is dragging that Ducati much further up the grid than it has any right to be. He's the real deal, as good as Rossi but sadly the fickle Duc will stop him taking the championship this year (unless it suddenly comes good of course).
Roll on my favourite race of the year: Assen!
